The temperature and lack of rain; the distances; fewer people in acres of undeveloped land. The result was a entertainment mix different and in some ways more limited from that available in the UK.
A lot of American visit the cinema every week; we quickly got into the same habit and were fortunate to have a brand new ten screen cinema near by. There were around ten other metroplexes within easy driving distance.
We also visited an Omnimax in Fort Worth which was developed as an alternative to Cinerama (a very different experience that is available at Bradford). The Omnimax itself is a huge dome with a fairly flat roof; it gave a very convincing 3D experience. It was a forerunner of the more familar IMAX.
Since then I have also been to a drive in cinema on one of my return trips to the USA – so I have now been to a most types of cinema (including Cinerama)!
Other, typical experiences, included eating out – to many places to list - and Six Flags Over Texas.
